Manually updating StairBiz

Use these instructions to update your copy of StairBiz to the latest version when you are in a networked environment (ie: There are multiple users of StairBiz in your office) and you are unable to use the built in Auto Update feature of StairBiz.

Step 1: Shut down StairBiz if it is currently running.

Step 2: Download the latest copy of StairBizAutoUpdate.exe from the Downloads page of the website. You will find this at the bottom of the page.

• When your Internet Browser asks if you want to Run or Save (or some older browsers ask if you wish to Open or Save), choose Save
• When asked where to save this file, choose C:\StairBiz Program\AutoUpdate
• You may be asked if you wish to replace an existing file with the same name. Answer Yes

Step 3: After this file has finished downloading, open Explorer or My Computer and navigate to the C:\StairBiz Program\AutoUpdate folder. There should be two files in this folder. They are both the same name (StairBizAutoUpdate) but have the extensions of .EXE and .INF The StairBizAutoUpdate.EXE file is the one you just downloaded.

Step 4: Double click on the StairBizAutoUpdate.EXE file. This will update your computer to the latest version of StairBiz. You will see some activity for a couple of seconds, then the screen will return to where it was before.

Step 5: Double click on the StairBizAutoUpdate.INF file. This will open a program called notepad and you will see a 3 digit number in this file. Change this 3 digit number to the current version number that you just downloaded (you will find the version number at the top of the downloads page). This number must not have any decimal places in it or any other symbols. For example, if the current version you just downloaded is 7.1.3. you will set the number to be 713 without any dots.

Step 6: In Notepad, click File then Save. Then click File then Exit to close notepad.

Step 7: Restart StairBiz and login with your password.

Step 8: Click Connect to connect to your office server. You will be informed that your server is running an older version of StairBiz and asked if you wish to update the server to the latest version. Select Yes. This will upload the StairBizAutoUpdate.EXE file to your server and allow it to propogate throughout your office network.
