StairBiz Release NotesVersion 9.4.7 - Released on 25-May, 2010Price By Area (New) More options for this system was introduced in v9.46, but the write-up was a day late getting into the v9.46 release notes. If you missed this item in the v9.46 release notes, please return to it.
Price Pro-rata Width (New) This was introduced in v9.46, but the write-up was a day late getting into the v9.46 release notes. If you missed this item in the v9.46 release notes, please return to it.
Pro-rata Pricing Legend (New) Same as above.
Orientation of Components on Sheet (New) Same as above.
Pricing sheet materials (New) There have been some clarifications and additions to the User's Manual (re sheet pricing) since v9.46. If anyone is currently grappling with sheet pricing, and you can't wait for the next manual release, ask John for an excerpt.
Save Job As - Pricing Refresh (New) When you select "Save Job As" or you open a Job Template (both from the project menu), the prices held in that job may be old (i.e. you may have changed your pricing since the original job or template was saved). In both cases you will now be asked whether you want to refresh all pricing using you current Defaults. If you say yes, it is the same as clicking the "Refresh" button in both the Components window and the Labor window of the job. This refreshes all pricing (not including pricing from filters, which are not saved with each job so are the most recent regardless). It also refreshes the properties of the styles selected in your Components window, the values in the Extra Lengths window, and the settings which calculate overheads.
Job Open - Filter Vet (New) Parts and labor filters used in a job are not saved with that job. Only the names of the currently selected filters are saved with the job. When you re-open the job, StairBiz looks in the defaults database for those filter names and loads them if it can find them. If it can't find them, it shows the filter name in the filter tab of the Components or Labor Cost window suffixed with an asterisk. It has always been this way. What's new is that now, on opening a job, StairBiz will alert you, showing a list of the filters it could not find. This gives less room for the situation to slip past unnoticed. Note: When a job is saved, the currently active filters are saved with the job by category, key and name (the key is the unique identifying number of the filter). When you re-open that job, StairBiz tries to locate those filters in your Defaults database by category and key. If the key no longer exists (i.e. the filter was deleted), it then looks by category and name. If the name exists, it will use it (i.e. StairBiz assumes that although the original filter was deleted, it was replaced by another with the same name). Note that this process assumes that the computer opening the job has the same defaults as the computer that saved the defaults, which it should if you post new or changed defaults to the StairBiz server as necessary. Note that the fact that filters can be changed or deleted between saving a job and re-opening it is perhaps the main reason why you need to lock your quote (in the Quote Calculation window).
CNC Cut - String Trench Anti-breakout (Fix) In the last release we attempted to exclude sawtooth strings from this cut. Instead we did the opposite. Now fixed.
Custom Sheets - Annotations/Stair moving when printed (Fix) If you find that annotations in a printed Custom Sheet are offset from those shown on the screen, the following applies: In reality, it was the stair drawing that was moving, but this became most evident when there were annotations and arrows on the stair drawing. This has been fixed (it was a problem with a third-party component). To correct the Custom sheet you need to do a new Page Setup in the Custom Editor. You may find that some graphic elements on the page have moved slightly after the Page Setup - unfortunately there is nothing we can do about this; you may need to adjust them accordingly.
Custom Sheets - Image Annotations when printed (Fix) Image annotations were printing at the top/left of the page. Now fixed.
Annotations - Resize (New) If you hold down the SHIFT key while resizing, StairBiz will maintain the aspect ratio (ratio of width to height) during a resize drag.
Annotations - Resize (Fix) Image annotations that had been resized were not printing at the resized size. Now they are.
Timbers window - Duplicated sizes (Fix) When swapping back and forwards between a "Square" (area) price method and a 'Lineal' price method, StairBiz could duplicate all of that timber's sizes, so that you could end up with two or more of each timber size in the size pane of the Timbers window. The bug is now fixed. To fix your database, select that timber and, while holding the SHIFT key down, click the 'Copy' button. In each set of duplicate sizes, StairBiz will retain the one with the most '$Buy' price (although I suspect it's not been possible to set more than one with an actual price).
Editing Filters (Reminder) Please remember that if you edit a Filter from within a job, you are editing the Defaults exactly as if you opened the filter from the Defaults menu (filters are not saved with the job).
